CEBL stands for the Canadian Elite Basketball League. It is the premier men's basketball in Canada. This is my final project in my practicum and I was tasked to create a draft post template for their basketball athletes.
These CEBL posts are meant to announce the athletes from Dinos who have been drafted or selection to join one of the elite basketball teams in Canada. Inspired by various draft templates, I followed a layout similar to one of the NFL Drafts that my mentor also approved which ended up being the left template above.
This is the pattern I've created for the background of the template. It features the logos of CEBL and Dinos, symbolizing the collaborative efforts of both organizations. My intention was to craft a pattern following a grid system, ensuring its structured layout and this is the final result of my design.
One of the challenges I encountered while creating these drafts was ensuring that each element had sufficient contrast and depth. I aimed to avoid a flat appearance and instead sought to improve the design with dimensionality and consistency. I made sure to use drop shadows and texture for added depth and tactile quality of the template. I also made a minor adjustment by changing the action photo to black and white instead of using a gradient. This alteration highlights the action moment of the athlete and adds emphasis to a pivotal moment.
Overall, this project was enjoyable because it provided me with the opportunity to explore various layouts and color schemes, thereby challenging my creative and critical thinking skills. Experimenting with different design elements allowed me to push the boundaries of my creativity and refine my ability to make informed decisions about visual composition.
It may seem like a simple template at first glance, but creating it required a considerable amount of effort and attention to detail.
